Easter Special From Ron
April 10, 2009
Hi,

This is my Easter newsletter.

If the thought of God or me sharing my faith offends you, please feel free to delete this letter and I'll look forward to sharing another "Gardening For Wildlife" newsletter next Monday.

If you know anything about me, you know that Spring is by far my favorite time of the year.

After a long winter of snow, cold and sometimes weeks of sunless days, who wouldn't look forward to a change.

Winter does play a part in my appreciation for Spring, but it is much more than that.

Many of you wrote in your spring favorites how you enjoyed the sights, sounds and smells of spring.

You mentioned how spring brings forth new life.

Indeed my friend.

As the days grow longer, birds and other wildlife become more active.

Yes, the length of day dictates more then temperatures.

As the days grow warmer, the grass turns green.

Flowers begin to bloom and trees and other plant life wakes up.

Insects wake up and eggs hatch.

You might even see of feel love in the air.

Love, another life giving moment.

If you think about it, many of your favorite spring smells are life giving or from life giving.

The intoxicating aromas of hyacinth and lilacs.

The smell of a fresh cut lawn.

The fresh smell of the earth as we dig in.

I really enjoy the smell of dirt, fresh cut lawns, spring rain, flowers and even worms.

Birds become more active, frogs begin to sing, some critters wake from hibernation.

Days grow longer and life is everywhere.

As a boy I couldn't wait to get out and explore the world around me.

New life to discover, things to see,

Helping in the Garden

Playing ball.

I still enjoy walks and discovery, but now my body reminds me that I'm not a boy any more.

Spring Rules.

Everyone knows the smell of Spring.

The smells that makes everyone want to spend the day outside, that reminds us all of summers past.

Digging the earth, planting flowers and veggies.

The feel and the smell of Spring.

Most people love the smell of Spring.

Well, maybe not everyone.

Along with that fresh scent comes itchy eyes, runny noses, and sore throats. Indeed, spring is not the ideal time for those with allergies.

It's that warm, sweet smell in the air when the Earth starts to wake up again

What you are smelling (among other things) is Geosmin, and Butyric acid.

There are hundreds of odorant-type chemicals that are released by the microbes of the soil and litter when microbial activity increases in the spring.

Butyric acid is one of the odor-compounds that can be produced.

This is an unpleasant pseudoseptic tank smell that can emanate from wet soils.

The common "earthy" smell of garden soil and the smell of spring is usually due to a compound called geosmin.

How about that, life giving bacteria.

Another life giving smell.

What about the smell of rain?

Everyone knows what I'm talking about here.

I suppose I'm going to ruin some myths and fables, but there is a reason for that familiar smell too.

"Petrichor", the name for the smell of rain on dry ground, is from oils given off by vegetation, absorbed onto neighboring surfaces, and released into the air after a first rain.

If you've wondered why the ground, or the road smells a bit odd when it rains after a long dry spell, wonder no more... The smell is given off by Streptomyces bacteria, a genus belonging to the Actinomycetales order of Gram-positive eubacteria, also called actinomycetes.

The bacteria grow in damp, warm earth before fine weather dries out the soil, which then blows around as dust. During a dry spell, actinomycetes produce spores that are released on contact with moisture.

Rain hitting the ground kicks up an aerosol of water and soil and you breathe in fine particles of soil containing the bacteria.

If you invite somebody to smell a plate of these bacteria grown in the lab, they always comment on how it smells just like the soil after rain.

Often you may smell this before a rain storm.

What happens is a rush or push of cool air before the storm will push smells, and other debris ahead of the rain.

So now you smell the bacteria before it comes.

Amazing..............

Not only is rain giving life, but the smell we are so familiar with is from life giving......

When we think about spring, most of our thoughts return to or go to the life giving or bringing forth of the season.

Is it a coincidence that Easter occurs in Spring?

I firmly believe that "Resurrection Sunday" took place in the Spring for a very important reason.

Spring means new life and what better indication of new life is there than Easter Sunday.

If you have read my letters or been with me for more than a week or two, you know I am a firm believer In God and his creation.

I have mentioned in letters how It is impossible for evolution to have made everything.

Why would life evolve to be more complicated?

Isn't evolution supposed to simplify life?

It takes two to reproduce instead of one.

Is that making life more simple?

Even certain plants have male and female plants that require insects and birds and the wind to pollinate them.

How efficient is that?

I've used birds as an example once or twice to prove creation over evolution.

Keep looking for missing links, you will never find them, only more questions.

The intelligent person believes in creation, not evolution.

I'm sure I will lose some readers over this, I have in the past.

This all leads up to .................

Death and life.

Spring favorites,

And................................

The Greatest Story Ever Told.

Where does one begin?

We can't begin to imagine what it was like for Jesus.

Limiting his God powers to become as human as you and me (in the flesh).

Now....................

Can you imagine if you knew what was ahead for you?

How would you react or live?

Jesus knew what was ahead of him.

The tasks at hand.

Who would betray and deny him.

The men that would beat on him and nail him to the cross.

The man, Jesus was in turmoil.

Knowing the fate that was about to come down on him.

Now..............................

As a carpenter's son. Jesus had to be a strong man physically (not the frail body depicted in so many movies).

Understanding history, you must realize that whippings where not simply a piece of rawhide, but had shards of glass and metal woven into the strands.

Beatings that ripped skin and flesh from the body.

Yet, every stripe placed on his body served a purpose.

"By his stripes you are healed"

Beat within an inch of his human life, Jesus had to suffer some more before he died.

God the father in all his wisdom waited for the right time in human history.

Jesus had to suffer and die the most inhumane, hideous death possible.

Crucifixion.

No other time in the history of man kind was there or has there ever been such a viscous way to kill or execute another person.

So now you see.........................

Jesus not only had to die or become the ultimate sacrifice,

He had to be beat and beat some more.

He had to be humiliated (humanly), spat on kicked, cursed and more.

He was nailed wto the cross without a stitch of clothing on.

He had to not only die for our sins, but the time was such that he had to feel the pain.

He had to suffer.

Jesus had to experience everything humanly possible so he could relate to us and what we go through everyday.

And why.

Easter, the celebration of living and life.

"So you and I can have life and have it more abundantly."

No more need for annual sacrifices to our Heavenly Father.

He loves us so much that the Trinity set forth this plan from the beginning of time.

Now this is just my thought or opinion......

When Jesus died, I feel he died of a broken heart., not just the pain.

He felt the separation from God.

"My God, My God.................. why have you forsaken me?"

"It is finished"

He died right after that.

Or did he?

Can you imagine, the prince of darkness laughing, thinking he had won the battle.

At once, on The prince of darkness door step stands the Prince of Peace.

Hand them over he tells the liar and coward.

Hand over the keys of death.

Cowering, Satan hands over the keys of death to the King of Life.

VICTORY.......................

Easter Sunday.

A day of life celebration.

HE HAS RISEN!

The smell of life is every where this Spring day.

Jesus died for us, but it would've all been for nothing had he not risen from the dead.

LIFE ETERNAL.

Victory is ours for the asking.

A seed must die to bring forth life.

A new plant that bears flowers and more fruit.

Jesus died so we may have new life.

Hope springs eternal and spring brings new life

Easter gives us a promise and a hope of everlasting life, not just in the Spring.

Why am I sharing this with you?

Most if not all of you already know the story, but sometimes we need to hear it again.

Sometimes we need to stop and think.

Then we need to thank Our Creator for all he has given us.

The Greatest Story Ever Told.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" Romans 8:1

Why do I go through this?

Every year talking about our Lord.

Why do I risk loosing readers?

We are commissioned to do so.

My Creator gave me a gift to use.

Besides, Gardening For Wildlife and Creation go hand in hand.

Don't you think so?

Just about everything we like and enjoy about Spring has something to do with life.

Plants turn green, birds mate and lay eggs, insects hatch, flowers bloom, the sound of frogs and other animal songs.

The smell of fresh earth and spring rains.

The smell of worms.

Every spring we have the hopes of a fresh beginning, a new start.

We are excited.

We can't wait for Spring.

Christ gives us that promise.

There are no promises that life will be a cake walk.

Usually you will find more tests.

But now there is someone standing with you and for you.

God does promise us that he will never leave or forsake us.

God loves a hurting heart that cries out to him.

God loves a cheerful giver.

God loves you.

If I lose every reader, but can help lead one person to the Lord then I am doing a good job.

We will never have all the answers and we still go through moments of trials and tests.

I am going through some trials and tests as I write this.

But I have an advocate.

Was it a morning like this......

When our Lord looked down onto Jerusalem.

Did the grass sing?

Did the earth rejoice to feel him again?

Well,

It is time to fly for now.

Thank you for being you and know that I pray for all of you daily.

And

"God Loves You Very Much"

Until Next time,

A very Blessed Christ filled Easter to you and yours.

Here is your thought for this weekend.

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise."

Luke 24: 1 - 7

If you need to accept Jesus into your heart, there is no better time then now.

He will hear you

If you need to rededicate your self to Jesus,

He will hear you.

HE HAS RISEN

Until next time my friend.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength,

They shall mount up with wings of eagles,

They shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint."

Isaiah 40:31

A christ filled Easter for you my friends.

You friend indeed
