Nothing Less Than A Miracle, Giving Thanks
December 02, 2014
Nothing Less Than A Miracle.
You may have noticed there hasn't been a newsletter the past two weeks.
Thursday evening, November 20, our precious and special needs girl (Yolanda) went into Full Cardiac Arrest.
Praise God, she is still with us today.
The 911 call had the responders her in a matter of minutes.
The weather and roads were in terrible condition.
Yolanda was unresponsive, she would gasp for breath every so often.
In a blink of an eye, she was on the floor and CPR was being performed.
We couldn't watch, it truly is a violent act.
Three more times (that we know of) from in the ambulance and in the hospital, she went into arrest.
Doctors were saying it didn't look good.
The hospital staff social worker was right there.
Eventually the Chaplain came too.
We were told, if she did survive, she would have severe brain damage, live off machines, have major kidney damage, etc.
She was without oxygen for several minutes.
We were in full prayer mode, and now we had an army of people prying too.
(I am crying again as I write.)
About the same time Karen was resigning to our girl going home to God (I wasn't).
Our Holy Father had different plans.
She has stabilized enough for a temporary pacemaker to get her heart in some sort of rhythm.
A truncated version here.
A few hours later, she was actually alert enough to recognize us and tried to smile.
For a next few days, she was sedated, while machines kept her going, and her body could start to heal.
Why her heart stopped beating.........
The Cardiologist explained it like this to us.
He called it a "Heart Block".
To you in me, it is simply an electrical short.
Her heart stopped from a kink in the wire, just like your lamp cord.
Move it around enough, and the light comes back on.
Only her heart wouldn't turn back on.
A permanent pacemaker is now in place.
Another miracle, there is no sign of any heart damage.
She started breathing on her own a few days later, and the kidneys are functioning close to normal.
A lack of swallowing, though getting better, causes saliva to drain into her already fragile lungs.
The issue right now is her ability to swallow enough to eat and drink.
You know what, my God is stronger than all the doctors combined.
As far as we can tell, there was no more brain damage, she is happy, and ready to come home.
The medical staff continues to run tests.
A CT scan this past Sunday showed she also had a couple of mini strokes within the past several days.
The scan also showed some minor tears in both blood vessels on either side of the spine and brain stem.
These vessels supply blood to the part of the brain that controls breathing, swallowing, and the heart.
This damage could be a result of a major cough, or even from her head suddenly and violently rolling back.
6 to 12 months for them to heal, if no more damage results.
We don't know when she will come home.
We don't know what kind of therapy is down the road.
We do know we Give Thanks to our God, and the healing powers of His Holy Spirit.
It's not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord.
I hope to give you a newsletter in a couple of weeks.
Until then, thank you for the many of you that have been prayer warriors with and for us.
Thank you for understanding and your thoughts.
Today, Yolanda was quite chipper.
She gets tired quick, which is okay.
Sleep is good.
Nothing less than a miracle.
Nothing less than the Glory of God.
We do give him the glory.
Until we meet again.
God Bless, and Give Thanks.
Here is your positive thought for the week
"Nothing turns us into bitter, selfish, dissatisfied people more quickly than an ungrateful heart. And nothing will do more to restore contentment and the joy of our salvation than a true spirit of thankfulness."
The bible reminds us to be thankful for everything.
Ungrateful hearts can destroy.
"Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong,
"Treat the earth well:
It was not given to you by your parents,
It was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our
Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children."
Ancient Indian Proverb
Your friend indeed,
Better yet, have them sign up so they can receive their own letters.
